Sir Osric of Whiterock

"I am Sir Osric of Whiterock: second son of house Erzweiss, and I shall not be deterred this day!"

Description:

Aspects:

  • With Sword & Shield
Sir Osric is well versed in the art of combat with sword and shield. Unfortunately this means the more technologically complicated methods of combat often elude him.
  • Lordly Honor
Face your opponent with respect, and as an equal on the battlefield. You know, like an idiot.
  • Are You Not Entertained!?
“The gods love a good show, Osric. Verbal jousting, witty repartee, some trash talk, you know! Give ’em a good show!”
  • CLEAVE & SMITE
When one’s life is on the line, survival takes priority. You tend not to think about collateral damage.
  • Among The Gods
The new prosthetic arm, artificial and sleek, is the manner of gift the gods would bestow upon their favorite followers back home. While he is appreciative of it, the similarities are uncomfortable.
  • Gods Don’t Bleed
The knowledge of the gods’ true nature can set a man free… or make them a big neon target.
  • Take Me Home
Time is of the essence and Osric is desperate to get home. Not hard to take advantage of a desperate man.
  • Stranger In A Strange World
Space holds in it immutable wonder to be sure, and also some not so immutable, not so wonderful stuff that might leave an inexperienced gezzy at odds.
  • Heretic
Sir Osric’s resolve to expose the gods is matched only by certain people’s unwillingness to believe him.
  • Getting His Space Legs
Even with years under his belt in space, Osric is still a relative newcomer to space and the workings thereof, but he’s learning.

Bio:

A displaced knight, taken off-world by a Szuba-Tai executive in a bid for wealth in high-profile blood sports. Osric, denied the ascension to paradise promised to him by his captor-turned manager, lashed out in rage and unexpectedly slew a god. The illusion of the gods’ superiority shattered with a swing of his sword, Osric seeks to return to his home planet of High Prelate and free his people from their deluded servitude to Szuba-Tai.

Growing Up
Aspects:

  • With Sword & Shield
  • Lordly Honor
Osric Erzweiss was the second son born to a lordly family governing over the Prelatine province of Whiterock. Having been granted this fiefdom by the gods themselves, the Erzweiss family was responsible for tending to the Whiterock peasantry, maintaining the local religious structures, and presenting the monthly sacrifices to the Prelatine gods in a timely manner. To this end, much of Osric’s childhood was spent in both clerical and knightly education, with a great deal of overlap between them. He learned the proper prayers, the necessary offerings, and how to raise sword in the defense of both.

Starting Out
Aspects:

  • Are You Not Entertained!?
  • CLEAVE & SMITE
Completing his squirehood, Osric was presented with his suit of armor and took up arms under the command of his father, Lord Oswald Erzweiss for years into his adulthood. Osric often found himself crossing swords with greedy bandits and villagers, desperate to bolster their less-than-satisfactory offerings to the deities (The gods were never picky about where their offerings came from, nor particularly interested in stopping squabbles between their subjects). In one particular battle, defending an offering caravan in transit, a bright flash saw Osric vanish from the battlefield. Osric found himself on the vessel of a Szuba-Tai employee who had plucked him from combat. The “god” promised Osric ascension to a heavenly existence for his piety if he’d only complete a series of “labors”; a pretext to enroll Osric into a high profile blood sport for his captor’s profit.

Moment of Crisis
Aspects:

  • Among The Gods
  • Gods Don’t Bleed
Over a year of near constant competition for the popular blood sport media giant: “Intershoal Professional Combat” has earned “Osric The White” a hefty amount of fame and majesty with the devoted fans of the spectacle for his aptitude in combat and penchant for fighting exotic and dangerous creatures. Unfortunately, the excruciating demands of his captor tax Osric to the point of physical and mental exhaustion, and in a heated conversation with his managing deity in transit to the next “labor”, Osric lashes out, and ended up with the blood of a god on his sword. Suddenly, as if to punish Osric’s blasphemous actions, the ship they are riding on: The Caliban is struck from the sky and crash lands on an outer shoal 462 orbiting Promana. Osric loses his sword arm in the ensuing crash, but regains consciousness to find it replaced with a biomechanical augment by the fugitive “Magus” Dr. Elias Barnes.

Sidetracked
Aspects:

  • Take Me Home
  • Stranger In A Strange World
With seldom a moment’s rest, Osric’s mind races with the recent revelation that the gods governing- no, enslaving his people are not the superior beings they profess to be. Enraged, Osric resolves to return to High Prelate to expose the Szuba-Tai trickery and free his people from their control. Unfortunately, Osric does not understand the “magic” of flight and while Magus Barnes is an artificer most skilled, even he cannot traverse the stars. Osric recalls witnessing the former captain of The Caliban escape the ship before the crash, and assuming him to be alive, sets out to find the Sky Lord.

On Your Own
Aspects:

  • Heretic
  • Getting His Space Legs
Osric is now on Shoal 492 in the company of Dr. Barnes, who has agreed to accompany him under the condition that Osric act as a bodyguard and ensure safe travel. Using Barnes’ technical expertise to hunt down the pilot that may help Osric get back home before the “gods” can silence him forever.
